CBP Begins Using Automated Form I-94 This Week

Foreign travelers will be given a tear sheet upon arrival at the port of entry with instructions on how to view and access their electronic Form I-94 on the CBP website, www.cbp.gov/I94. Foreign travelers will be able to print out a paper copy of their electronic Form I-94 from the website. Foreigners may require the paper versions of the electronic Form I-94 for certain immigration applications or for public benefits from government agencies.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) began updating some of its forms to make sure the I-94 automation would not interrupt adjudication of requests for certain immigration benefits. The forms ask applicants and petitioners to enter their I-94 admission number and/or their 1) passport information and 2) travel document information. In light of the I-94 automation, USCIS will accept paper copies of the electronic Form I-94 printed from the CBP website as proof of lawful admission. These paper print outs of the electronic I-94 will be equivalent to the paper versions previously issued by CBP and USCIS. Alternatively, in lieu of the print out of the electronic I-94, USCIS will also accept photocopies of the biographic page of the Beneficiary's passport, visa stamp, and admission stamp as proof of lawful admission.
