Contacting your Congressional Representative about your Immigration Case

Congress

If you have a pending immigration case that is outside standard processing time and you have been unable to get a response or update from USCIS, the U.S. Citizen petitioner can consider contacting their Congressional Representative for assistance.

Congressional representatives can contact federal agencies on behalf of the US Citizen petitioner, to try and expedite a pending decision. Please note that they cannot influence or change the outcome of the USCIS decision in any way.

The U.S. Citizen petitioner will first need to search for their congressional representative by entering their zipcode in the online tool here:

https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Once the congressional representative has been identified, the US Citizen petitioner can contact the representative’s office by phone or email. We recommend email communication due to its convenience and ease of tracking. For contacting by phone, there will generally be two phone numbers provided. We recommend contacting the phone number for the district office.

While communicating with the congressional representative’s office either by email or phone, let them know that that you are a constituent from their district and you are in urgent need of assistance with an immigration matter that is outside of standard USCIS processing time. You should ask for the name and contact information for the appropriate person to communicate to regarding your case. Make sure you provide all pertinent case information along with the case receipt number in your inquiry request.

We hope you find this information useful!
