Analysis of 2012 PERM Stats

The Office of Foreign Labor Certification has released the following statistics for Permanent Labor Certification Program for the fiscal year 2012:

1) Between October 1, 2011 and September 16, 2012, USCIS received 67,400 PERM applications.

2) Of the received applications, 51,600 were certified; 7,800 were denied; 3,200 were withdrawn.

3) Of the certified applications:

a. The Top 3 Occupations were: Computer/Math (27,800 applications); Architecture/Engineering (5,300 applications); and Management (4,600 applications).

b. The Top 3 Work Site States were: California (11,400 applications); New Jersey (5,200 applications); and New York (4,400 applications).

c. Top 3 Industries were: IT related (22,600 applications); Manufacturing (7,700 applications); and Information, Media, Telecommunication (4,500 applications).

d. The Top 3 Countries of Citizenship were: India (28,700 applications); China (3,100 applications); and Canada (2,600 applications).

4) 27,000 PERM applications were certified where the Minimum Education Requirement was an Advanced Degree (Masters or Doctorate) whereas only 19,900 PERM applications were certified where the Minimum Education Requirement was a Bachelor’s Degree
