Professionals with Advanced Degrees

Green Cards > Employment Green Card > Professionals with Advanced Degrees

The applicant’s job position must require a professional holding an advanced degree and the applicant must actually have earned an advanced degree or its equivalent in education and work experience.

What counts for an advanced degree?

  • A Master’s degree or higher from a U.S. institution;
  • A Master’s degree or higher from a foreign institution if it has been equated to a U.S. Master’s degree through an official educational evaluation; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree, either from a U.S. or foreign institution, plus five years of progressive experience. Progressive experience means “employment experience that reveals progress, moves forward, and advances towards increasingly complex or responsible duties.” An applicant may need to submit a statement attesting that such progressive experience is required for the relevant job.

Note that if the job requires a Ph.D., an applicant cannot use equivalent work experience in lieu of a Ph.D.
