An Afghanistan or Iraq national who is a translator must meet the following requirements to qualify:

 

1.      Worked directly with U.S. Armed Forces or Chief of Mission as a translator or interpreter for at least one year;

2.      Obtained a favorable written recommendation from a general or flag officer or chief of mission;

3.      Cleared a background check and screening before filing; and

4.      Otherwise admissible, but do not have to prove that he/she can financially support themselves upon entry to the U.S.

 

This category has 500 visas per year, and spouse and children of applicants may also join the applicant in the U.S.
